We are awaiting the arrival of some new friends. Cloud b, a company we just love, has introduced the Twilight Ladybug and the Cuddle Cub. The Twilight Ladybug as you can guess is just like the Twilight Turtle. Twilight Ladybug makes bedtime fun and helps ease children’s fear of the dark by projecting a starry night sky onto bedroom ceiling and walls. What I love about this new ladybug is it has a moon in the center with the stars around it.

The Cuddle Cub’s tactile sensations are carefully chosen to comfort, calm and provide a sense of security. There’s a unique heart-shaped vibration unit tucked into the Cuddle Cub’s body that provides two gentle vibration options. Combined with soft fabrics and memory foam, Cuddle Cub helps comfort and ease children to sleep. I don’t have a picture to share with you, but at the show we didn’t want to put them down. The vibrations were very comforting.
Our new friends are scheduled to ship October 15th with an arrival date anytime around the 23rd.

Apple Gripe Water Recall
Murphy’s Law 101:
Kelly and I know better than to say the word “never”. As in “we’ve never had a product recalled in our store”…until now. However it isn’t a toy, so I feel a bit better. Although this is something children are ingesting, on our recommendation for gas and upset stomachs, so with that respect, I feel much worse. It’s scary to have a product in your store that you believe in to cause possible harm to someone. We have attempted to reach all customers who have purchased the gripe water; however, if we do not have your contact information, we haven’t been able to reach you.
Here’s the scoop: Mom Enterprises, Inc., also known as Bliss by Mom, is voluntarily recalling their Apple Flavored Baby’s Bliss GripeWater, coded 26952V 10/08 (expiration date October 2008), as it may be contaminated with Cryptosporidium, a parasite that may cause intestinal infections. Consumers in possession of the recalled product should immediately discontinue use and dispose of the product. The company is offering full refunds on Apple Flavored Baby’s Bliss GripeWater. Affected consumers should contact the Customer Service Department at 1-877-457-4955.

We are concerned with toy safety
We have been concerned with toy safety since long before we opened the doors of Bellani Maternity. Often people have commented to us that our toys are of a high quality, and often a price point higher than those found at Big-Box stores. We want you to know that we search for the highest of quality in all of our products, not just the toys. We scour the CPSC each day to make sure we are aware of the newest recalls.
Not one of our products has been recalled. As you will notice over the next several weeks many more of the new products will come with letters verifying the origins of the products, as well as a statement regarding the makeup of each product. We want you to feel confident when you shop at Bellani that we also have your child’s best interest in mind.

Airport 1:24 am
It’s 1:24 am in RI, only 10:24 pm here. We’re at the airport waiting for out red eye back to lovely RI. Why are we here 2 hours early? Well, that’s something you’ll have to ask Paul, Kelly’s husband. He was a little nervous about missing the flight. Can you guess how much we have harassed him about this already? Kelly and I will be back at Bellani tomorrow (today actually) to see all of our wonderful customers. Thanks for being patient with our family and friends who were nice enough to take care of Bellani while we were here in Las Vegas. We couldn’t have done it without them.
Something new at ABC?
I do have to say we were quite surprised about not finding something all that new this year. It seemed that most items were remakes of things that already existed (Peanut Shell came out with a nursing cover just like the Bebe au Lait, several companies to be exact or the nursing pillow that looks like all the others). We are coming back to RI with new stuff, may not be new to the market, but definitely new to RI. This is really little, but we think it was practical. There’s a company called Smart Mom that makes necklaces that are actually teethers. We saw a mom who had one and her child was so happy chewing away. She had said she got it at the show. I have a sample that will be at Bellani tomorrow and our order is scheduled to arrive in our center next week. My point to all of this: we walked for about an hour trying to find this company. Apparently they got a call about a cancellation so they got in at the last minute and were not listed in the directory. My point to that: they are practical and kind of pretty (ok, I just want all of you to ask about it because we spend so much time looking for it. Thanks so much).

A beautiful carrier
I would like to thank two customers. Unfortunately I don’t know their names, but one called asking for this carrier, and the other came into our store wearing it. It is by far the most useful and beautiful carrier I have seen. You can start using it immediately for a newborn up to 50 lbs. It’s hard to explain how it all works (so you’ll just have to come in so we can demonstrate for you) but basically, take the Ergo, Mei Tai, Baby Bjorn and a Moby and whisk them all together with thier best features and there you have it…the Beco carrier. They will be arriving in our center in about six weeks.
Skip Hop upgrades
Kelly and I are excited about new features from Skip Hop. They have taken the Velcro off all their bags (except for the side bottle pockets) which is great because the Velcro got caught on your arm every time you put your hand in the bag, and replaced it with magnets. When you want to change your bag from the shoulder strap to hang it on the stroller, the clip is now able to have both clips in at the same time, which means you don’t have to unclasp the arm strap anymore. They have come out with a backpack and messenger style bag and a new metro line. What does that mean for our customers? We will clearance out our current Skip Hop’s to make room for the new ones arriving. Lucky for you!
It’s a chopper, it’s a stroller…I can’t decide
Check out this stroller from Kid Kustoms. Their goal is to breathe new life into our mundane stroller category. Jamie Coblentz, Jason Albert and Joe Iacono have collaborated to take this stroller to a whole new level. These strollers are completely customizable from leather seats (ostrich, alligator or stingray), custom rims and tires, Bluetooth speakerphone and Caller ID, DVD players (we need those on our long walks with our children), an ipod docking station and so many more features I just couldn’t write about. So what’s the cost you ask? They start at $2500 and go up depending on design and features. If you’re the type that watches American Chopper and drools over the bikes they make, then this stroller is for you. Although, if money may be a little tight for something like this, you might have to weigh your options: Send little Jonny to preschool, or have a kickin’ stroller to show off to all your friends. Hmmmmm, that may be a tough call. Contact Jamie at jamie@kidkustoms.com to learn more.

Hardly new, but arriving soon
You may have seen these before on blogs or magazines. We met the lovely family behind Wee Gallery last year, their five year old is so wonderful and polite. We just weren’t ready to jump on the product line since they were still very new. This year it was a Day 1 stop for us. The whole family is back. Mom is the artist in the family, Dad handles all ordering and shipping, Little Man is the Customer Service Specialist. I’m coming home with samples, and the most beautiful temporary tatoos for our little people. It is such a treat to meet wonderful products coming from great people.
You asked….I found
We have been getting calls for the last several weeks from customers searching for Muslin wraps for their babies. Within one hour of walking into the show the lovely ladies of Aden & Anais were found. Now I finally understand why so many women were looking for this lovely, useful product. Muslin is a cotton fabric that is completely breathable, the weave is light and open. The soft natural fibers allow your baby’s body temperature to adjust naturally, eliminating over-heating, but ensuring warmth and comfort.
These blankets are large, which I love. I feel receiving blankets are never big enough to swaddle an infant, and quite honestly they are also beautiful. I can see every new Bellani parent taking at least one dozen photos of their sleeping little one while wrapped in this luxurious product. They will be in-stock soon.
