Dunstan Baby Language…do you know what your baby is saying?

If you weren’t home at 4:00 pm today to tune into Oprah, here’s a recap on something interesting. Priscilla Dunstan, a mom from Australia with a special gift, says she’s unlocked the secret language of babies. When she was four, her parents uncovered a special talent of hers, a photographic memory to sound. She could here a symphony from Mozart, then go to her piano and play it back note for note. Could you imagine being able to do that! Priscilla says her gift has helped her hear a special “second language” beyond English, allowing her to detect moods and even diagnose illnesses! “Other people might hear a note but I sort of get the whole symphony,” Priscilla says. “So when someone’s speaking, I get all this information that other people might not pick up.”

Priscilla has tested her baby language on more that 1,000 infants around the world. She says there are five words that all babies 0–3 months old say—regardless of race and culture.

Those “words” are actually sound reflexes, Priscilla says. “Babies all around the world have the same reflexes, and they therefore make the same sounds,” she says. If parents don’t respond to those reflexes, Priscilla says the baby will eventually stop using them.

I read Oprah’s message board regarding the show today. There were several people who said they have used it and has really worked for them (and of course one who had some interesting words to say).

Dustan Baby Language has been out for over a year now. However, until now you could only order it through Dunstan’s web site. They now sell to wholesalers. We have it here in our center, or you can order in online here.

My Holiday Top Picks

Our first top picks…yes I know, a few customers have been asking for this. I have actually been waiting on a few products before I wanted to write this. What’s the sense if we don’t have them in stock, right? So here it is.

For Baby:
I love the Grabbitz ball It’s a cross between a winkle and a crinkle ball. grabbitz-ball.jpg

Haba Welcome Games Starter Set: A wonderful companion for the first years of life. A reversible bag with day and evening theme that includes a wooden pacifier chain, 3 finger puppets, wooden rattle, little wooden car with a friendly driver for years of fun. This brings a child’s imagination to life.

I also love these stacking cups. My kids loved these so much. Not only can they stack and nest them, but they can also use them for play cups, sorting, and any other imaginative thing they can think of. stacking-cups.jpg stacking-cups-over.jpg

My first fishbowl by Lamaze. Children love to put the sea animals in and out of the fish bowl. The “real” water makes it look like they are underneath the sea.

For Toddler: The Rody is by far our favorite. It’s the first thing every child rides on when they come to our center. It hold up to 450 lbs., which means dad can ride on it too. They come in a variety of colors, blue, green, yellow, violet, purple, red, orange and even silver. rody.jpg

My next favorite is the Doll Pram from Haba. Haba is a wonderful European company that produces well made, quality toys. The doll pram is great for boys or girls (I know you hear the word doll and think it’s just for girls. My two sons would go crazy over this. If we didn’t have 15 other things to push in our house, this would have been on Santa’s list).doll-pram.jpg

What child doesn’t like music? The 10 piece Band in a Box set from Melissa & Doug contains everything a little one would like to make all sorts of music.
