Local moms help build parenting resource

This was an article in the East Bay newspaper. We at Bellani love to hear stories about parenting resources and know how important it is for moms to have this vital information. Whether you’re a mom with a 2 week old, or a mom of 3 with toddlers, we all need community in our lives.

Barrington residents Michelle Riggen-Ransom and Katy Killilea have made a habit of turning tips they pick up from family and friends into informational articles for other parents on the Internet. Ms. Riggen-Ransom and Ms. Killilea are two of a handful of Rhode Island parents who write for Kidoinfo.com, a place where local parents can share helpful tips and fun activities and ask questions specific to their needs.
Both women are mothers of two children under five years old, so there’s not much time to write. But they manage to do it, they said, because it’s important.
It’s important because they enjoy doing it, and because it is a great tool they like to use themselves.

Have a wonderful Easter

Easter is tomorrow and I wanted to wish everyone a wonderful day. I really enjoy Easter. I’m not exactly sure why? I am not particularly religious (honestly my oldest is going to start Sunday school next year and I’m afraid he’s going to know more than me!), it usually involves freezing in the morning while the kids run around finding eggs and dealing with meltdowns from having too much candy all day. However, the look on their faces when they wake up in the morning, somewhat like Christmas, is so sweet. When my oldest says “hey, come on Owen I think the Easter Bunny came, let’s go look”. They run around the yard collecting eggs stopping every few seconds to see what it might hold. They get so unbelievably excited to find 5 jelly beans. I love the way my oldest will say “oh, Owen loves this candy, let me leave it here for him to find and I’ll find another” just melts my heart. So on that note…have a wonderful Easter and all the small wonders that go with it. -Shannon

Beco Butterfly Recall

Beco filed a voluntary recall yesterday with US Consumer Product Safety Commission for their product Beco Butterfly produced and sold during January thru February 2008. Same recall for EU will be filed next week.

Hazard: Buckles connecting top of carrier’s body with shoulder straps can suddenly release tension when shoulder straps held near by or by the buckles, causing carrier’s body to shift, posing a fall hazard to the baby.

Incidents/Injuries: The firm has received 10 reports of the webbing slipping thru the shoulder buckles causing carrier’s body to shift. No injuries have been reported.

Description: The recalled infant carriers were sold under brand name “Beco Baby Carrier Butterfly”. Carrier has black label with green logo “b” on left side and picture of butterfly on the right side.
Name of fabrics included in this recall: Mia, Pony Express, Carnival, Addison, Ethan, Sophia, Cameron, Ava, Joshua

Remedy: Consumers should stop using the carrier immediately and contact Beco Baby Carrier for instructions on returning the carriers for repair. Firm will provide free retrofit of the buckles and reimburse involved postage.

Beco is saying the information will be posted on their website by today and a hotline (800 number) by next week.

We wanted to get this information out as soon as we had word from it from the vendor.

Bottom line; “we recognized the potential hazard resulting from use of our product, will contact all customers who has purchased this product (via email and mail) and offer a free retrofit of the pieces with the new types of buckles, which will be standard use in our production as of March.
We will also reimburse customers for returning shipping and ship the products back for free as well”.

All Beco Butterfly carriers made after the recall are already retrofitted with they new parts. As of now, our inventory is being sent back to Beco, and we will receive the new shipment in April. We will be testing them under our conditions to make sure they are safe for our customers and then will decide if it’s a product we still wish to carry. This is a voluntary recall and no accidents have been reported. We loved this carrier for its innovative design and style. Let’s hope they can get it together and get the product back on track.

I’ll keep you posted with any further information. We are asking our customers to call Beco at 714-552-3201, or you can wait for their toll free number which will be out next week. We will not be able to accept returns here, Beco wants to have all of their products returned to them to fix the issue. However, if you have any questions about the carrier you have or if you should be using it, please call us at 401-234-1279.

Skip Hop Clearance Event

Come get-em’ while supplies last. All Skip Hop diaper bags 20% off, and all Skip Hop accessories 40% off including prontos, feeding palettes, plates & bowls and play spots.

Why are we clearancing Skip Hop? When we brought the Skip Hop line in our store 1 1/2 years ago it was a specialty line. Now unfortunately, you can find it everywhere including Babies R Us and Target. So, it’s not a line we wish to carry when there are so many other really cool products out there.

So come and get them while you can. When the supply is gone, so are the savings!
